    When is PF mandatory for a company and an employee?

    Hi Caroline,

    As per the Provident Funds & Miscellaneous Provisions Act of 1952, applicable to all states except Jammu & Kashmir, PF is applicable to all companies that meet the below requirements.
    – Any business or establishment in the industry listed here.
    – Employs 20 or more people.
    – Cinema theatres with more than 5 employees.

    Any company that doesn’t meet the above requirements can still voluntarily opt-in for PF scheme.

    For employees, all employees except interns are applicable for PF if their basic wage is less than INR 15,000. However, even if an employee’s basic wage is above INR 15,000, PF can be applicable.
